This incident was video recorded by Simon Lowe. 233 people where on board this jet bound for Lanzarote. The number 2 engine sucks in one bird (a crow or corvid) as the plane rotates off the runway. T.V. news reports of two herons being sucked in are wrong. Congratulations to the crew and air-traffic controllers for the calm and professional way they dealt with the situation. CAA regulation say any aircraft has to be able to clear the airfields surroundings( tall buildings/hill and such) and climb after an engine failure, not a problem for most aircraft. its all calculated meticulously before takeoff, based on known single engine performance. a 747 can loose 2 engines and still fly.
