Episode 2 of a video which focuses on homebuilt and garage gas turbine / jet engines. Karls Rolls Royce Derwent is now mounted to a truck, a custom built starting panel now makes the engine easy to manage, again we see how impressive the Derwent is at idle and then full power. We then move onto one of todays younger jet builders, built from infomation gathered on the internet, this engine displays all the hallmarks of good backyard jet design. A invitation is detailed at the end of the video for people interested in being part of episode 3, a sort of twisted competition for those who like a little jet in their life.

Note how the younger generation will still have hearing at 50, as they use protection!

The thrust needed to overcome the resistance of the brakes from a complete stanstill is huge. The truck is heavy so its not going anywhere, most aircraft wont move with full thrust and brakes on.

The RR sounded as if it had some metal-to-metal contact in the turbine/NGV area as it spooled down. I also noticed some "sparks" during running -- not a good sign. It would pay to identify where that metal (and the noise) was coming from. Great vids by the way -- most well done! But as far as jet engines go, turbines have too many moving parts ;-)
